Of Water, Whales, and Wilderness... Fort Lewis College Symphonic Band
2023 Water Week
This year, we present the FLC Symphonic Band’s Fall Concert in collaboration with Water Week at FLC! Every piece in the concert relates to water, the earth, or awe-inspiring Colorado landscapes that are shaped by and rely upon water. We will open with musical representations of Mother Earth’s cries for help, then gradually progress to a sense of hope for the future.
Dr. Joe Nibley, our featured soloist on trumpet, will join us to perform Kevin McKee’s Centennial Horizon, a work celebrating the beauty of Colorado. The concert also features two new compositions that FLC helped commission—one featuring whale songs from Alaska’s Inside Passage and the other a major symphony for wind band inspired by Van Gogh’s Sunflower series. We hope you’ll join us for this one-of-a-kind wind band concert!
