The Colorado Water Fellows Program at Fort Lewis College
About the program
The Colorado Water Fellows Program at Fort Lewis College is a year-long training program that connects students from historically excluded/ minoritized communities or identities (including, but not limited to, students from racially/ethnically minoritized backgrounds, Indigenous students, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ students, students with veteran status, and first-generation college students) to water opportunities and careers. The program aims to advance the next generation of diverse water leaders by emphasizing a holistic and interdisciplinary understanding of water, preparing students to pursue water careers relevant to their interests.
The program began at the Colorado Water Center (Colorado State University) but has since expanded. In 2024, participating institutions include the Four Corners Water Center at Fort Lewis College, Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder, the One World One Water Center at Metro State University - Denver, the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver, and Colorado Mesa University.
This collaboration will connect Fellows to a community of peers and water experts both locally and throughout Colorado. In addition, the Fort Lewis branch of the Colorado Water Fellows program will provide regional content and opportunities that expand to the broader Four Corners region (including AZ, NM, and UT).
