Professor Mattos is an environmental scientist, engineer, and community engagement specialist with over a decade of experience working on the intersecting goals of environmental protection, human well-being, and community resilience. Her current research involves designing and evaluating mid-tech and alternative infrastructure to implement more sustainable approaches to community development. This includes figuring out new water and wastewater systems that can improve health and well-being in rural communities and looking at green infrastructure approaches to improve natural resource management.
