Klema

Dr. Matthew Klema

Assistant Professor of Physics & Engineering

Area of Expertise: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
Phone: 970-247-7663
Email: mrklema@fortlewis.edu

Dr. Klema's research focuses on the understanding of fluid mechanics and turbulence, especially in the environmental setting. Dr. Klema utilizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model fluid flow and study the interactions of a fluid with the environment and with engineered systems. Simulations can help inform our understanding of fluid systems and implications for engineering in a wide variety of applications from river restoration practices, to aerodynamics, to biomedical research of the lungs and heart. The study of turbulence, the smallest fluid dynamics processes, in the stratified flow environments is an area of particular focus in Dr. Klema’s work. Measurement of turbulence is a very difficult process and is often overlooked by practicing engineers.

Dr. Klema is an active member of the Fort Lewis College student organization Village Aid Project and has contributed to project implementations in Myanmar in 2017 and 2019.
